Test customers

Create and manage test customers for your SDK integrations.

Every workbench member is automatically registered as a test customer, which means they can be sent (and receive) test cards. You may also want to add test customers for non workbench members, for example, when user testing. Once created, you'll be able to access a magic link that signs the manually created test customer into one of the Atomic demo apps, so they can receive cards. For more information, see the sending testing you Action Flows and cards article.

See team member test customers

From the Test Customers configuration tab you'll see all active workbench members, and be able to find/copy their customer IDs for use when sending test test events from outside Atomic (you won't need these IDs when sending tests from within the Workbench).

Make an existing customer a test customer

Test customers do not have to be created ahead of time. Any customer already in your environment can be switched into test mode from the Customers dashboard:

  1. Go to Customers and find the customer, using search or filters if you need to.
  2. Open the overflow menu at the end of their row (the ⋮ icon) and select Allow test mode.
  3. Confirm the change.

Once test mode is on, that customer:

  • can be targeted by test Action Flow sends
  • receives cards built from your draft content, which live customers never see
  • appears under the Manually created test customers tab on this page, where you can also generate a magic link for them
  • can be selected as a test recipient when you test an Action Flow or send a test card
  • has the User type filter field on their profile set to test rather than live

To switch it back off, select Disable test mode from the same menu in the Customers dashboard. Note that deleting a customer from the test customers list on this page deletes the whole customer record, not just its test status.

caution

Only switch on test mode for customers you control, for example your own accounts or those of people taking part in testing. A test customer receives unpublished draft content, so putting a live end user into test mode may expose cards you are still working on.

Switching test mode on or off requires the same permission as managing test customers on this page: edit on the Workbench member resource.
